Nottingham Forest have appointed Vitor Pereira as their new head coach on an 18-month deal following Sean Dyche’s dismissal. The Portuguese manager previously worked under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiakos, winning the league and cup double in 2015. According to Skysports.com.
Pereira Returns to Marinakis Fold as Forest Seek Europa League Salvation
Forest moved swiftly to secure Pereira’s services ahead of Thursday’s crucial Europa League knockout play-off first leg away to Fenerbahce. The appointment represents a reunion between the Portuguese coach and owner Evangelos Marinakis, who previously employed him at Olympiakos where he delivered domestic success.
Pereira becomes Forest’s fourth head coach of the season, replacing Dyche who was dismissed during the early hours of Thursday morning after the goalless draw with Wolves. The former Burnley manager lasted just 114 days in charge, leaving Forest three points above the relegation zone with 12 games remaining.
The 56-year-old Portuguese coach kept Wolves in the Premier League last season after his December 2024 appointment but was sacked following a poor start to this campaign. Wolves have been contacted as part of the protocol regarding his appointment at the City Ground.
Marinakis is understood to be frustrated with Forest’s inability to maximise their attacking talent and move away from the relegation places. The Greek owner has turned to a familiar figure in Pereira, who will oversee 14th club of his managerial career spanning multiple countries and competitions.
Forest’s immediate focus centres on their Europa League knockout play-off against Fenerbahce on Thursday, followed by a challenging Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Sunday. Pereira faces the dual challenge of European progression and domestic survival in his opening fixtures as head coach.
