West Ham United called an emergency meeting on Sunday evening to discuss head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s future following the club’s alarming slide down the Premier League table. The Hammers sit 18th and four points from safety after winning just two of their previous 15 games across all competitions.

West Ham United Call Emergency Meeting as Nuno Espirito Santo Future Hangs in Balance

Santo faces mounting pressure after West Ham’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to rock-bottom Wolves left the London club nine games without a victory in the Premier League. The Portuguese manager was appointed to replace Graham Potter with the task of easing West Ham’s relegation fears, but the move has quickly deteriorated for all parties involved. Santo currently sits as the favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked.

According to an insider on social media, the emergency meeting was called at 8pm on Sunday with Santo’s position described as “serious”. German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Santo is “on the verge of being sacked” and is expected to get “at most one more game” against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, which would be “the decisive match” for his future at the London Stadium.

TalkSPORT reports that fears over Santo’s future have intensified following the Wolves defeat, with owner David Sullivan unconvinced by performances since the appointment. Former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is reportedly “on standby” and “ready to answer an SOS” after Sullivan actively explored hiring the fans’ favourite when Potter was dismissed before being persuaded by fellow board members to appoint Santo instead.

Michael Carrick has also emerged as a potential replacement, with the former West Ham midfielder understood to be high on the list of candidates and having been sounded out by the club in the past. Santo, who was harshly dismissed by Nottingham Forest at the start of the campaign, took the West Ham role despite having other options available but has overseen a dramatic decline in form that has left the club in serious relegation trouble.
