Genoa Push for Roma’s Pisilli Loan Deal in January

Genoa are intensifying their pursuit of Roma midfielder Niccolò Pisilli ahead of the January transfer window, with the Serie A club pushing both the Giallorossi and the player’s entourage for a loan deal as the 20-year-old seeks regular playing time after managing just 47 minutes of league action this season.

Genoa Intensify January Pursuit of Roma Midfielder Niccolò Pisilli

The 2004-born midfielder has struggled for opportunities at Roma this season, playing only 47 minutes in Serie A, prompting initial discussions about his future as the January transfer window approaches. According to Corriere dello Sport, Genoa have emerged as the most interested club and are actively pursuing both Roma and Pisilli’s representatives to secure a temporary deal for the young Italian.

The situation could be resolved within the next two weeks, with December 29th presenting a significant opportunity for further negotiations. On that date, Genoa will visit the Olimpico to face Roma in their final match of 2025, marking Daniele De Rossi’s return to the capital as an opponent after his departure as Roma coach earlier this season.

De Rossi played a crucial role in Pisilli’s development during his time at Roma, specifically selecting the midfielder for his first Serie A start in September 2024 at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus. The former Roma captain’s praise for Pisilli has been noted, though it may not be sufficient to guarantee the player a permanent place in the current Roma setup under the new management structure.

Roma have made their position clear regarding any potential transfer, stating that Pisilli is not considered surplus to requirements and they have no intention of selling him permanently. The club favours a loan arrangement that would allow the midfielder to gain valuable playing time and continue his development while maintaining control over his future career progression.

The timing of any potential deal is significant given that Pisilli renewed his contract with Roma just a few months ago, demonstrating the club’s long-term faith in his abilities. Roma intend to monitor his development closely regardless of whether a January loan move materializes, viewing the young midfielder as an important part of their future plans despite his current lack of first-team opportunities.
