Robert Lewandowski has opened the door to a possible move to Saudi Arabia at the end of the season for the first time since joining Barcelona, with his current contract expiring in summer and Al-Hilal among the clubs pushing hardest for his signature according to reports from SPORT.
Lewandowski Considers Saudi Arabia Switch as Barcelona Contract Nears Expiry
The 37-year-old striker has spent several seasons attracting strong interest from Saudi Arabian football but had previously shown little interest in engaging with those proposals. Lewandowski felt settled at Barcelona both professionally and personally, with that sense of stability playing a major role in his decision to ignore the multimillion-pound offers coming from Saudi Arabia despite their financial appeal.
Lewandowski’s change in attitude stems from his altered role under manager Hansi Flick this season. While he continues to contribute and accepts his responsibilities with professionalism, the Polish forward is no longer guaranteed a starting place every week. Flick’s system has demanded more rotation, and Lewandowski has increasingly found himself in a more secondary role, which has naturally prompted reflection about his future.
The striker is fully aware that his contract expires at the end of the season and that his future at Barcelona is far from certain. Against this backdrop, Lewandowski has now become more receptive to the interest coming from Saudi football, with Al-Hilal having even explored the possibility of bringing forward his arrival to the current winter transfer window.
However, that January option is currently ruled out, with all parties focused on reassessing the situation in the summer. For now, the Polish striker remains committed to finishing the season strongly with Barcelona, but everything hinges on the club’s next move as Lewandowski waits to see what kind of contract offer Barcelona puts on the table.
If Barcelona’s proposal is deemed too low or short-term, the chances of Lewandowski moving to Saudi Arabia will increase significantly. The coming months will prove decisive for the veteran striker’s future, with his reduced role under Flick representing a significant shift from his previously settled position at the Catalan club.
