Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe dismissed speculation linking him with the Manchester United job following Ruben Amorim’s sacking on Monday, stating he is “very happy” at St James’ Park and has no intention of leaving his current role at this time.

When asked if anything could tempt him away from Newcastle following Amorim’s departure from Old Trafford, Howe responded categorically: “No. Not at this current time.” The 47-year-old emphasized that happiness in his role and strong relationships with people around him remain his primary considerations, stating these factors are “the most important thing” for his decision-making process.

Howe acknowledged that his relationships at Newcastle have not always been consistently positive, particularly referencing tensions with former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who departed last summer after less than a year in the position. However, the head coach has quickly developed an understanding with Ross Wilson, who replaced Mitchell as the third sporting director Howe has worked with since his November 2021 appointment.

The Newcastle manager expressed contentment with his current situation, explaining he remains committed as long as he can “express myself in the best way possible and be the best version of myself.” Howe praised his relationship with the club’s ownership structure, describing an “unbelievable relationship with the board” that has never changed and emphasizing the importance of confidence and trust between all parties.

Newcastle currently sit ninth in the Premier League but remain just two points off fifth place, while also reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals and maintaining a strong position for a Champions League last-16 play-off spot. Only Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Fulham’s Marco Silva have been in charge of Premier League teams longer than Howe since his appointment over three years ago.

Howe continues to enjoy backing from the club’s majority owners, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, as well as minority shareholder Jamie Reuben. The head coach stressed that successful clubs require “unity from top to bottom” and expressed gratitude for having time to build strong relationships, noting that few managers receive such opportunities in modern football.
