Cristian Romero issued a scathing criticism of Tottenham’s hierarchy following their 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday night, posting an emotional Instagram message that was later edited to remove accusations of the club telling lies to supporters.

Romero Criticizes Tottenham Leadership After Late Bournemouth Defeat Leaves Spurs 14th

The Argentine defender played the full 90 minutes as Tottenham suffered another damaging Premier League loss at the Vitality Stadium. Antoine Semenyo scored the winner for Bournemouth in stoppage time after Joao Palhinha had equalized late on for Spurs, who appeared to have rescued a point from their trip to the south coast.

Romero apologized to supporters in his Instagram post to 5.1 million followers, writing that players were responsible for the poor form but criticizing the club’s leadership for their silence during difficult periods. “At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don’t – as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well,” the defender stated in his message.

The original post contained a more damaging accusation against the hierarchy, with Romero initially writing that club officials “only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies.” This final phrase was subsequently edited out of the post, though the criticism of leadership remaining silent during poor results was retained in the amended version.

Several Tottenham teammates showed support for Romero’s stance, with Pedro Porro commenting “Amen. Keep going, brother. We have a lot of battles left” while Richarlison left a clapping hands emoji on the post. The message received more than 75,000 likes as supporters responded to the defender’s frank assessment of the club’s situation.

The defeat leaves Tottenham in 14th place in the Premier League table after winning just one match from their last six league fixtures. Manager Thomas Frank acknowledged his team’s good performance despite the loss but highlighted defensive weaknesses on set pieces, stating that Spurs “conceded two goals on second phase set pieces” and “needed to do much better” particularly for Bournemouth’s second goal.
