Tottenham have rejected Roma’s initial loan offer for central defender Radu Dragusin, with the London club demanding either a permanent transfer or mandatory buyout clause rather than accepting Roma’s proposed loan with option to buy structure for the Romanian international.

Tottenham Turn Down Roma’s Loan Proposal for Dragusin as Transfer Talks Hit Obstacle

Roma identified Dragusin as their primary target for the central defensive position while awaiting Giacomo Raspadori’s response to their approach. However, negotiations with Tottenham are encountering significant obstacles related to the transfer formula, with Spurs taking a firm stance against Roma sporting director Frederic Massara’s opening proposal.

Signs of Dragusin’s possible departure from north London intensified during Tottenham’s FA Cup match against Aston Villa, where the former Genoa defender remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes. The 22-year-old’s entourage has confirmed their openness to joining the Giallorossi, but Tottenham have no intention of releasing the player without guaranteed immediate or future payment.

According to reports from Sky Sports and the Daily Mail, Spurs rejected the loan with option to buy structure proposed by Roma. Manager Thomas Frank has not ruled out reintroducing Dragusin into the rotation to cope with the busy English schedule, despite Tottenham currently sitting fourteenth in the league table and the defender’s recent absence from matchday squads.

To break the deadlock in negotiations, Roma will need to modify their transfer approach by either including a mandatory buyout clause in any loan agreement or making a permanent purchase offer. The Italian club continues to pursue defensive reinforcements while managing multiple transfer targets during the January window.
