Liverpool and Chelsea are among several Premier League clubs tracking Como defender Jacobo Ramón, with the 21-year-old Spanish centre-back emerging as one of the most closely monitored defenders of the January transfer window despite Real Madrid retaining significant control over any potential deal.

Premier League Giants Liverpool and Chelsea Circle Como’s Rising Star Jacobo Ramón

Ramón moved from Real Madrid to Como last summer on what was intended as a developmental opportunity, but the young defender has quickly established himself as a starter in Serie A. His performances have been characterised by composure, anticipation and technical calm, qualities that have attracted widespread attention from English clubs seeking defensive reinforcement.

Sources close to the agents industry have confirmed that Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool have all tracked Ramón since December, while Newcastle United, Brighton and Crystal Palace have sent scouts to assess him in person. The Spanish defender has impressed observers with his ability to organise space, step into midfield with the ball and read danger early, despite his relative inexperience at the highest level.

Chelsea view Ramón as a long-term project that aligns with their youth-driven recruitment model, while Liverpool’s interest appears more stylistic in nature. His pace and composure are seen as ideal attributes for a high defensive line and aggressive pressing system, traits that would be essential in a setup that asks defenders to defend large spaces repeatedly throughout matches.

Any potential transfer faces significant complications due to contractual arrangements between Como and Real Madrid. Although Ramón is under contract at Como until 2030, Real Madrid ensured their continued influence by negotiating an €8 million buy-back clause and a 50 percent sell-on clause when they allowed the defender to leave the Bernabeu last summer.

The complex contractual situation means that while Ramón’s market value is estimated at around €18 million, the real cost for Premier League clubs could rise well beyond that figure. Real Madrid retain the option to activate their buy-back clause and immediately resell the player, while Como would still expect a fee reflecting both his recent performances and future potential in any negotiation.
