Former Wycombe Wanderers head coach Mike Dodds has been appointed as Oxford United’s new assistant head coach, joining Matt Bloomfield’s coaching staff at The Kassam Stadium following his dismissal from the Chairboys in September after leading them to the League One play-offs last season.
Mike Dodds Appointed Oxford United Assistant Head Coach Under Matt Bloomfield
Dodds was sacked by Wycombe Wanderers in September despite guiding the club to the League One play-offs during the previous campaign. The experienced coach now moves to Oxford United as assistant head coach, reuniting with the football league system after his departure from Adams Park earlier in the season.
Oxford United have also confirmed the appointment of Ben Cirne as coach analyst, with Cirne having previously worked alongside Bloomfield during his coaching roles at Colchester United, Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town. The appointment continues Bloomfield’s strategy of bringing trusted staff members to his new position at Oxford United.
The club confirmed that several existing coaching staff will remain at The Kassam Stadium following the recent managerial changes. Craig Short, who served as interim boss after Gary Rowett’s departure last month, will stay at Oxford United alongside goalkeeping coach Lewis Price and coach Craig Hackett, providing continuity within the coaching setup.
The coaching appointments represent Oxford United’s efforts to establish a new structure under Bloomfield’s leadership following the departure of previous manager Gary Rowett. Dodds brings experience from his time at Wycombe Wanderers, where he achieved promotion to the League One play-offs before his September dismissal from the Buckinghamshire club.
