Celtic have made an enquiry for West Ham striker Callum Wilson as the Scottish champions attempt to gauge his interest in a January transfer, with the 33-year-old expected to leave the London Stadium after just five months at the club.
Celtic Make Enquiry for West Ham Striker Callum Wilson in January Window
Sky Sports News understands Celtic are trying to determine Wilson’s interest in joining them this transfer window, with the striker having fallen out of favour at West Ham under manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese coach revealed at the start of January that he had informed Wilson he did not feature in his plans going forward.
A number of clubs in England and Saudi Arabia are also interested in the 33-year-old forward, who has scored four goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this season. Wilson has not appeared in West Ham’s last two matchday squads following the club’s signings of strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo earlier in the January transfer window.
Celtic are actively seeking at least one striker in this transfer window, with the Hoops ideally wanting to add two forwards to their squad. The Scottish champions have already made enquiries for other targets, including Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana and NK Celje’s Franko Kovacevic, as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed he had been honest with Wilson about his reduced role at the club, stating they had held multiple conversations about the situation. “I personally decided that these strikers have joined,” Nuno explained. “So Callum is a very experienced man. He’s been in the game for so much time. He knows that his position has changed. So we were honest to each other.”
Wilson joined West Ham as a free agent after leaving Newcastle on a heavily incentivised contract, but Sky Sports News revealed last week that both the club and player have agreed it is best to part ways. The experienced striker could be set to depart the London Stadium after just five months, having initially arrived with hopes of regular first-team football under the new management.
