Rangers secured their place in the Scottish Cup fifth round with a commanding 5-0 victory over fourth-tier Annan Athletic at Ibrox, with Bojan Miovski scoring a hat-trick in Danny Röhl’s much-changed side that featured nine alterations from their weekend lineup and extended their winning streak to six matches.
Rangers Cruise Into Scottish Cup Fifth Round With Miovski Hat-trick Against Annan
Miovski opened the scoring after 12 minutes when he created space on the edge of the area to fire a powerful left-footed effort beyond Charlie Albinson. The North Macedonia international doubled his tally 20 minutes later by heading in Findlay Curtis’ dinked cross from close range, giving Rangers a comfortable 2-0 lead at the interval.
The Light Blues added a third just three minutes into the second half as Kieran Dowell scored on his first appearance since August with a looping header from Joe Rothwell’s cross. Academy graduate Curtis, who has been heavily linked with a loan move away from the club this month, was a constant threat throughout the evening and will now be cup-tied should he depart for another Scottish club this window.
Miovski completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 74th minute before substitute Thelo Aasgaard rounded off the scoring with a perfectly executed 30-yard free-kick in the 87th minute. New signing Tochi Chukwuani, who joined this month from Sturm Graz for an initial fee of £4.3 million, was brought on for his Rangers debut, alongside 17-year-old Zebedee Lawson who signed from Brighton in the summer.
Prior to kick-off, Rangers revealed the signing of Denmark international winger Andreas Skov Olsen by unveiling him to the Ibrox crowd alongside fellow January arrivals Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens. The 26-year-old joins the club on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the season, with the option to make that move permanent in the summer.
Rangers manager Danny Röhl expressed his ambition for a double, stating that his side can play for two titles at the moment and emphasising the growing belief within the squad. “I think there is something growing, there is a connection, there is a belief, there is a trust to each other,” Röhl said after the match, praising the confidence and pride that has returned to the team during their current winning run.
