Alessio Romagnoli’s post-match actions after Lazio’s 0-0 draw at Lecce intensified reports he is close to leaving for Al-Sadd. The centre-back, who played the full 90 minutes at the Stadio Via del Mare, appeared emotional while speaking with ultras leaders, shaking hands and handing over his jersey. Teammate Adam Marusic said it “looked like a goodbye,” pending a club decision.
Romagnoli appears to bid farewell to Lazio fans after 0-0 draw at Lecce
Alessio Romagnoli seemed to signal a farewell to Lazio supporters after Saturday night’s 0-0 draw with Lecce, fuelling reports he is on the verge of a move to Al-Sadd. The defender started at the Stadio Via del Mare and completed the full match in a goalless Serie A stalemate that left attention on the scenes after the final whistle rather than the action.
Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri had insisted before the match that Romagnoli was a player he “couldn’t do without” if available, and the centre-back remained in the XI. After the whistle, the squad walked over to salute the travelling support in the away end, with Romagnoli standing out during the exchange with fans.
Romagnoli appeared emotional as he spoke with several of the ultras leaders, shook their hands and passed on his jersey. The 30-year-old is a lifelong Lazio supporter and joined the club as a free agent in 2022 when his AC Milan contract expired, adding to the sense of significance around the moment in Lecce.
Teammate Adam Marusic, speaking to Sky Sport Italia, was asked directly whether it felt like a farewell. “For what I saw, I think it was a goodbye, but we’ll see what the club decides over the next few days,” Marusic said. The report noted the scenes were similar to Matteo Guendouzi saluting supporters at the Stadio Olimpico just hours before his transfer to Fenerbahce.
