Yannick Carrasco has set his sights on a move to Roma and is pushing for the transfer as negotiations move into an advanced stage, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Roma have already given the go-ahead to make a decisive move, backed by the player’s agents. Al Shabab, however, are resisting an exit, even as Carrasco offers to lower his salary to help a loan with an option to buy.

Carrasco presses for Roma transfer as Al Shabab resist exit in talks

Carrasco wants only Roma as discussions over a deal gather pace, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported. The report said negotiations are at an advanced stage, with the Giallorossi already giving the green light to make the decisive move. Roma are also being supported by Carrasco’s agents, who are pushing for the transfer to be completed.

The Belgian has already made his decision and plans to use the opportunity to relaunch his career ahead of the World Cup. The report described Carrasco as playing a key role in difficult negotiations with Al Shabab, who are unwilling to lose him at what it called a crucial point in the season as they battle to avoid relegation from the Saudi Pro League.

Carrasco is determined to move and is willing to significantly reduce his salary to facilitate the deal. His current pay is around €7 million for the remainder of the season, according to the report. That figure is described as sustainable for Roma, particularly because the option being pursued is a loan with an option to buy rather than a permanent transfer immediately.

Roma sporting director Ricky Massara appears ready to close the deal this weekend, the report said, likely after waiting until the Europa League match against Panathinaikos. Roma are confident they can bring Carrasco to the capital, but Al Shabab’s stance remains the key obstacle as talks continue.
