Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in a deal worth up to £500,000. The move addresses Forest’s goalkeeping crisis following John Victor’s season-ending knee injury. According to Bbc.com.
Forest Address Goalkeeping Crisis with £500k Ortega Signing from City
The 33-year-old German arrives at the City Ground after falling to third choice at the Etihad Stadium behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford. Ortega, who is out of contract this summer, has not featured for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.
Forest’s urgent need for goalkeeping reinforcement stems from John Victor’s knee injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the campaign. Global head of football Edu Gaspar identified the goalkeeper position as a priority area requiring immediate attention.
“Stefan arrives here with fantastic experience and a winning mentality, having been part of such a successful team for the past few seasons,” Gaspar explained. He emphasized that Ortega “stood out straight away” when Forest assessed potential targets for the position.
Since joining City in 2022, Ortega has made 56 appearances and played a crucial role in their Premier League title triumph in 2024. The experienced keeper featured in 22 games last season, including City’s FA Cup final defeat by Crystal Palace.
Gaspar believes Ortega will “provide great competition for our group of goalkeepers” while contributing both on and off the pitch. The signing represents Forest’s proactive approach to addressing their goalkeeping shortage mid-season.
