Carrick stresses importance of finding right Casemiro successor at United
The 34-year-old Brazilian will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer, ending a four-year stint with the club. Carrick has started Casemiro alongside Kobbie Mainoo in all five matches since taking charge, demonstrating his continued importance to the team’s structure and performance levels.
“Case has been fantastic since I came in, really, on and off the pitch,” Carrick stated in his pre-match press conference. The manager praised Casemiro’s use of experience and his responsibility as a senior player in “helping the young players, helping the rest of the boys and passing on your experiences in a positive way.”
Drawing from his own experience of making 464 appearances in that deeper-lying midfield role during his playing career, Carrick highlighted the position’s significance. He described it as “an important position to try and tie everything together” whilst noting how the player must be “connected to the whole team” both emotionally and mentally.
Casemiro has contributed five goals this season, adding extra prominence to his role with contributions at both ends of the pitch. Carrick acknowledged that “Case has had a big influence within the group” and confirmed the club is “fully aware” of the importance of getting his replacement right moving forward.
Despite the upcoming departure, Carrick expressed confidence in Casemiro’s continued ability to perform at the highest level. “He’s playing as good a level as he’s played at for some time,” the manager observed, suggesting the Brazilian could still move to another high-level team after leaving United.
