Roberto De Zerbi has provided positive updates on Rodrigo Bentancur and Micky van de Ven after both players sparked injury concerns during Tottenham’s crucial win at Aston Villa on Sunday evening. According to Football.london.
De Zerbi eases Tottenham injury fears over Bentancur and Van de Ven
The Italian manager confirmed that Bentancur was simply tired when he was substituted during the match, dismissing any serious fitness worries. When asked directly about the Uruguayan midfielder’s condition, De Zerbi responded: “Yes, yes, Bentancur just tired.”
Similar reassurance came regarding Van de Ven, who appeared to roll his ankle late in the contest at Villa Park. The Tottenham boss was equally emphatic about the Dutch defender’s status, stating clearly that he was fine and dismissing injury concerns.
De Zerbi praised Kevin Danso’s performance as the Austrian stepped into the defence, though acknowledged areas for improvement. “He is playing very well. I think with the ball he can play better and he knows what I mean,” the manager explained.
The positive injury news will come as significant relief for Tottenham, who have suffered numerous fitness problems throughout the campaign. De Zerbi acknowledged the impact of injuries on the squad’s struggles, noting how suffering so many setbacks can cause confidence to deteriorate game by game.
Spurs lifted themselves out of the Premier League’s bottom three with the 2-1 victory, secured through goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison before Emiliano Buendia’s late consolation for Villa.
