Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou, the second goal arriving in the 87th minute. Raphinha had equalised for the hosts, but Real moved to within three points of their rivals and recorded their first win in Barcelona in three years. According to Skysports.com.
Mbappe’s late strike turns El Clasico and tightens the LaLiga race
The decisive moment came when Kylian Mbappe slotted in Eduardo Camavinga’s cutback after Jude Bellingham’s skill created the opening. Real Madrid’s celebrations were uncontained, with Jose Mourinho dropping to his knees, staff entering the pitch and players clashing with Barcelona fans.
Mbappe’s first, in the 41st minute, owed something to fortune. Gerard Martin’s clearance from Yan Diomande’s cross struck the forward and went in. The move that produced it was excellent, though, and Real showed throughout that they were prepared to match the more favoured hosts.
Barcelona levelled in the 61st minute when Pedri reversed a pass into Raphinha, whose snapshot beat Lunin despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it. Controversy had preceded it, as Joao Cancelo escaped retrospective punishment for putting his studs into Diomande’s calf in the 57th minute.
Real then defended as Barcelona pushed. Lunin clawed away Martin’s header from a corner, and Lamine Yamal’s clipped shot bounced just wide in the 78th minute. Instead of a Barcelona winner, Mbappe’s second arrived to decide the contest.
The result closes Real to within three points of Barcelona, with Atletico second and two points off the leaders. Hansi Flick’s side saw their 11-game winning streak at the start of the season halted by defeat at Paris St-Germain in the Champions League, and this LaLiga loss will sting more.
