Liverpool are expected to part ways with Alisson Becker when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to Football Insider. Rather than turn to Giorgi Mamardashvili, the club are understood to be exploring the market, with Aston Villa’s Zion Suzuki already on their radar. According to Football365.com.
Liverpool plan for life after Alisson with Zion Suzuki on their radar
Alisson’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and a recent run of errors has sharpened the question over his future. Against Fenerbahce in midweek, the 34-year-old failed to claim a looping high ball that led to the Turkish side’s winner, an uncharacteristic lapse in commanding his box.
Football Insider reports that a parting of the ways is now anticipated, with Liverpool said to be preparing for a new goalkeeper. Journalist Pete O’Rourke said the club were “putting contingency plans in place as they prepare for Alisson to leave in the summer” while weighing a number of candidates.
O’Rourke pointed to a backdrop of uncertainty around the Brazilian. Juventus showed strong interest in the summer, but Liverpool took up the option to extend his deal by 12 months. Alisson has since made a couple of mistakes in recent games, and there has been talk of a move back to his native Brazil.
The obvious question is whether Mamardashvili inherits the No 1 shirt, but TEAMtalk reports that the answer is no. Football Insider has now verified that Liverpool are actively exploring the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper, and Zion Suzuki of Aston Villa is already on their radar.
Bailey explained on Friday morning that Liverpool are another major club to have looked into Suzuki while reviewing their goalkeeping options. The Brazilian’s long-term position is being discussed at Anfield, Bailey added, with the club weighing how to plan the future of the department.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping ranks already include Mamardashvili, while young Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans is due to arrive in 2027. Even so, Mamardashvili is not currently viewed as Alisson’s long-term replacement, and the club are continuing to assess alternative options in the market.
