Ajax have opened talks over a loan move for Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, as Nottingham Forest explore options to change his current season-long deal. BBC Sport reported Forest are considering ending the agreement early, but the loan has no early-termination mechanism and Arsenal are unwilling to take him back now. Zinchenko’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the season.
Ajax open talks over loan for Zinchenko amid Forest early-exit plan
Ajax are in talks over a loan move for Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the Ukraine international currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. BBC Sport revealed on Wednesday that Forest were exploring terminating the agreement early at the City Ground, even though the deal is due to run until the end of the season.
Any proposed return to Arsenal has been complicated because the loan agreement does not include a mechanism that allows it to be ended early. Arsenal have also indicated they view their squad as full and are therefore unwilling to approve Forest’s request to bring the loan to an end now, leaving Forest needing to find a different solution.
The onus has been on Forest to find Zinchenko another club if they are to offload the former Manchester City defender. If all parties agree to a switch to Ajax, the 29-year-old would officially return to Arsenal before heading straight out to Amsterdam on loan.
Zinchenko joined Forest on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day last summer but has struggled to make an impact, only starting four Premier League games. He is set to leave Arsenal at the end of the season when his contract expires.
