Amir Richardson is expected to complete a loan move from Fiorentina to boyhood club OGC Nice this January, with the 23-year-old midfielder having expressed his desire to join Les Aiglons during their difficult period in Ligue 1.
Richardson Poised to Join Nice on Loan as Fiorentina Midfielder Eyes Boyhood Return
The Nice-born player confirmed his interest in the move after Fabrizio Romano first revealed the club’s pursuit of his signature. Richardson stated that Nice remains his priority destination, explaining his emotional connection to the Allianz Riviera outfit where he hopes to make an impact during a challenging campaign for the French side.
Richardson emphasised the personal significance of a potential return to his hometown club, revealing that family ties remain strong in the region. “It’s my boyhood club. I grew up in Nice and my mum still lives there,” the midfielder explained. “I know that they’re in a difficult period but Le Gym are a very good Ligue 1 club. Nice is clearly my priority.”
Nice-Matin reports that the loan deal is expected to be completed, though Les Aiglons must first offload several players to accommodate Richardson’s arrival. Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga are among the candidates for departure, with both players having been on sick leave since supporters ambushed the team bus at the end of November following poor results.
Tom Louchet and Kevin Carlos represent additional options for Nice to create squad space this month. Carlos has struggled to make an impact since his summer arrival from Basel, though his departure options remain limited as he cannot join another European club having already represented two teams this season under UEFA regulations.
