Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has ruled out making any signings during the January transfer window, despite the club being heavily linked with potential targets and requiring upgrades in certain positions, particularly midfield.

Amorim Confirms Manchester United Will Make No January Changes Despite Squad Needs

The Portuguese manager told reporters on Friday that there will be no alterations to his squad this month, stating the club has no conversations planned regarding transfers. “The transfer window is not going to change, we have no conversation to have any change in the squad,” Amorim confirmed. He emphasized that United will continue with their current process and existing ideas rather than seeking immediate reinforcements.

United spent approximately £230 million during the summer transfer window, signing Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens while offloading most of their unwanted players. However, Amorim acknowledged the team still lacks depth in different departments, with midfield identified as an area requiring at least one new signing in the coming weeks or months.

When asked about player departures, Amorim revealed that none of his squad members have approached him requesting to leave the club. “No, none of them. I don’t expect them to come to me to ask [to leave],” he stated. The manager also expressed his belief that United should have accumulated more than their current tally of 30 points after 19 games, arguing the team deserves better based on their performances.

Amorim acknowledged United’s precarious league position, noting they are close to Champions League qualification places but also near eight teams below them in the table. He stressed the importance of focusing on upcoming fixtures rather than transfer speculation. The manager also discussed the significance of facing Leeds United, describing it as a big derby with great rivalry and acknowledging the hostile environment his team will encounter, despite never experiencing this particular fixture before.
