Wolves are close to securing England midfielder Angel Gomes on loan from Marseille, with negotiations at an advanced stage. The deal includes an option to buy the former Manchester United player permanently after his temporary return to the Premier League. According to Bbc.com.

Angel Gomes poised for Wolves loan switch as Marseille stint stalls

The 25-year-old has struggled for regular starting opportunities at Marseille since joining from Lille last summer, failing to start a Ligue 1 match since November. Despite scoring four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions, Gomes has been deemed surplus to requirements and can leave this month.

Talks between Wolves and Marseille have been ongoing as the clubs work to finalise terms for the England international’s temporary switch. Sources indicate the loan arrangement will provide Gomes with the Premier League platform he needs to revive his career trajectory after his French struggles.

Gomes made history at Manchester United when he became their youngest player since Duncan Edwards in 1953, making his senior debut at 16 years and 263 days old as a substitute for Wayne Rooney. He accumulated 10 senior appearances during his time at Old Trafford before seeking opportunities abroad.

The midfielder earned four England caps under former caretaker manager Lee Carsley, though his last international appearance came in October 2024. His failure to start a Champions League match at Marseille has highlighted his need for regular first-team football that Wolves hope to provide.
