Michael Carrick is reportedly planning to recall Marcus Rashford from his Barcelona loan spell and reintegrate him into Manchester United’s squad for the 2026-27 season. The interim manager’s decision could end Rashford’s time at the Catalan club despite his impressive performances. According to Worldsoccertalk.com.

Carrick targets Rashford recall as United stability grows under new leadership

Telegraph Sport reports that Carrick intends for the Red Devils to recall Rashford and bring him back to Old Trafford following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. However, this plan depends entirely on Carrick being confirmed as the permanent head coach, something that has yet to happen officially.

Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona until the end of the 2025-26 season, but the Catalan club holds a €35 million buyout clause option. If Barcelona decide to activate this clause to make the move permanent this summer, Manchester United would have no say in preventing the forward’s departure.

The English forward has delivered impressive statistics during his time in Spain, scoring 9 goals and providing 12 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. Despite these strong numbers, Hansi Flick considers him a backup option behind Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha in the pecking order.

Carrick’s positive evaluation of Rashford stems from their shared history at Old Trafford, having played alongside each other during the 2015-16 season when Rashford made his professional debut. The former midfielder remained at Manchester United for two additional seasons, allowing him to closely observe Rashford’s developing abilities and potential contributions.

The improvement in Manchester United’s recent performances under Carrick has been bolstered by strong contributions from key offensive players including Bryan Mbeumo, who scored crucial goals against Manchester City and Arsenal. Adding Rashford to this attacking mix would provide another experienced option as the club aims for major objectives moving forward.
