Paul Merson has claimed Chelsea would cash in on Cole Palmer if a club bids at least £120 million in the summer, despite the England international’s impact since arriving from Manchester City. Reports have suggested Palmer has become unsettled, while Marcel Desailly said the forward could ask for a transfer request if Chelsea do not win the Premier League in the next couple of seasons.
Merson: Chelsea Will Sell Palmer if £120m Bid Arrives This Summer
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson insists Chelsea would sell Cole Palmer if another club offers £120 million or more in the summer. Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City for £40 million in 2023 and has produced 41 goals and 19 assists in 82 Premier League appearances since moving to Stamford Bridge, according to the report.
Chelsea have sacked Enzo Maresca earlier this month and replaced him with Liam Rosenior, with the piece stating the club are struggling to match Palmer’s ambitions. It added that Chelsea finished sixth and fourth in Palmer’s first two seasons at the club and that sixth-placed Chelsea look set for a similar finish in the Premier League this term.
A report in The Sun on Thursday claimed Palmer has become “unsettled” at Chelsea and would consider re-joining Manchester City if Pep Guardiola leaves in the summer. Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly also suggested Palmer “will ask for a transfer request” if the Blues do not win the Premier League in the next couple of seasons.
Desailly, speaking to Card Player, said he would like Palmer to stay and urged him to “respect the club,” adding that Chelsea have given him “the tools to become the player he is now.” Desailly also said Palmer wants more stability and a system built for him, while noting he needs to fully recover from a groin injury and return to full fitness.
Merson, writing for Sportskeeda, said Rosenior is “looking after” Palmer but questioned the player’s reaction after scoring a penalty against Brentford last week, describing the celebration as “a bit strange.” Merson added Chelsea “must keep Palmer happy” but maintained that if a club offers £120 million, “Chelsea will sell him,” and criticised the decision to use Palmer on the right rather than as a No. 10.
