Chelsea have moved to shut down transfer talk around Cole Palmer, describing the England international as “untouchable” amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester United. Sky Sports reported Chelsea’s stance, with the club viewing Palmer as central to its long-term plans and under contract until 2033. Head coach Liam Rosenior reinforced the message and said Palmer is happy at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea dismiss Palmer to Man United talk as Rosenior calls links ‘unrealistic’
Chelsea have made their position clear on Cole Palmer amid reports of rival interest, with the club describing the England international as “untouchable.” Sky Sports reported Chelsea’s stance as speculation suggested Palmer could return to the north west, with talk of a move to Manchester United. Those inside Chelsea dismissed suggestions the player was unsettled in London or open to leaving.
Palmer is under contract until 2033 and is viewed by the club as central to Chelsea’s long-term identity. Rosenior backed that stance when asked directly about the situation. “Yes and yes. It’s simple,” he said, confirming both Palmer’s status and that he is happy. Rosenior added the rumours were linked to managerial change elsewhere and said, “It’s not true.”
Rosenior said there was no need for assurances, calling the idea of a move “so unrealistic.” “It’s come from nowhere, there’s nothing in it,” he said. The coach also spoke of ongoing conversations with Palmer about improvement and team development. “Cole is very happy,” Rosenior said. “He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player.”
The report said Palmer’s season has been disrupted by injuries to his groin, toe and thigh, with the most recent issue ruling him out of Chelsea’s win at Crystal Palace. It added he returned to training on Tuesday ahead of the Champions League fixture at Napoli. Palmer has four goals in 12 league appearances and no assists this season, compared with 15 goals and 11 assists last season.
Since arriving from Manchester City for £40 million in 2023, Palmer has recorded 41 goals and 20 assists across 81 league games, according to the report. Chelsea’s message, it said, is rooted in planning rather than posturing, with the club determined to keep key figures in place as it builds for the long term.
