United’s Devaney Secures St Mirren Loan After Captaining Every U21 Match

Jacob Devaney has joined Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, subject to international clearance. The 18-year-old Academy midfielder moves to the Paisley club after captaining United’s Under-21s in each of their 11 matches in Premier League 2 this season.

The Republic of Ireland youth international’s development trajectory has been impressive since making his Under-18s debut aged 15 in 2023. During the 2023/24 season, Devaney appeared 29 times for Adam Lawrence’s U18s side as they lifted three trophies, with no player selected more frequently than the versatile midfielder.

Devaney’s tactical flexibility allows him to operate in the middle of the park and across the backline, showcasing his adaptability at youth level. He has continued his progression with the older age group this term, also featuring for United in the EFL Trophy and scoring a sublime individual goal against Notts County’s senior side.

St Mirren currently sit 10th in Scotland’s top tier, providing Devaney with an opportunity to gain valuable senior experience in a competitive environment. The loan represents the next step in his development after several years progressing through United’s Academy system.
