Malen Set to Accept Roma Transfer from Aston Villa

Roma are closing in on their first January signing with Donyel Malen expected to confirm his acceptance of the club’s transfer proposal today, as the Dutch striker prepares to join on loan from Aston Villa with a €23.5 million purchase option after a year in Birmingham.

Donyel Malen Expected to Accept Roma Loan Move from Aston Villa Today

Roma turned their attention to Malen after experiencing considerable difficulty in landing primary targets Giacomo Raspadori and Joshua Zirkzee, with both players still under consideration. Sporting director Frederic Massara received approval from the Friedkins and manager Gian Piero Gasperini to explore the possibility of signing the 25-year-old forward, who has emerged as the top candidate for the Giallorossi’s winter transfer window.

Aston Villa have opened the door to Roma’s preferred deal structure, agreeing to a loan arrangement with an option to buy rather than demanding a permanent transfer. The negotiation has been facilitated by Malen’s desire to gain a new experience after spending one season at Villa Park following his move from Borussia Dortmund.

According to reports, Roma will pay €1.5 million for the loan deal and potentially €23.5 million if they decide to activate the buyout clause at the end of the season. The former Ajax and PSV youth product is considered the perfect fit for Gasperini’s tactical system due to his characteristics and versatility in the final third.

Negotiations will continue in the coming hours as Roma look to reach a final agreement as soon as possible and secure their first winter signing at Trigoria. The Dutch striker’s confirmation is expected today, with both clubs working to complete the paperwork and medical arrangements for the transfer.
