Harvey Elliott has rejected the opportunity to escape his difficult loan spell at Aston Villa by turning down interest from Major League Soccer clubs, including Charlotte FC who viewed him as a potential marquee signing. According to Caughtoffside.com.

Elliott snubs MLS escape route as Villa loan spell hits complications

The 22-year-old midfielder finds himself in an increasingly precarious position at Villa Park, having made just seven appearances since his deadline day move from Liverpool last September. Elliott’s loan contains a crucial £35 million obligation to buy clause that activates once he reaches 10 appearances for the club.

BBC’s Nick Mashiter reports that Elliott was frozen out of Unai Emery’s plans for almost four months between October and late January. His brief reappearance towards the end of January hinted at possible reintegration, but has not fundamentally altered his peripheral role in the squad.

With the Premier League transfer window now closed, Major League Soccer presented a potential lifeline for Elliott. Charlotte FC emerged as the most prominent admirers among several MLS clubs exploring a move, with their transfer window remaining open until the end of March.

However, Elliott has decided he has no interest in a move to the United States at this stage of his career. The England youth international is instead expected to remain at Villa Park until his loan deal expires, despite the uncertainty surrounding his role under Emery.

Elliott’s decision suggests a desire to prove himself in England rather than seek a reset abroad. From Liverpool’s perspective, the situation remains delicate with the obligation-to-buy clause looming and Elliott’s long-term pathway at Anfield still unclear.
