Fiorentina have implemented security measures to protect players, staff and their families after receiving what the club described as “unacceptable and shameful” threats following their 3-1 defeat at Sassuolo on Saturday, which left the winless side bottom of Serie A after 14 matches.

Fiorentina Implement Security Measures After Threats Target Players and Families

The threats were received in the aftermath of Fiorentina’s eighth league defeat of the season against Sassuolo, with the club immediately contacting players and relevant authorities to ensure necessary protective measures. The Serie A side condemned the behaviour in an official statement, expressing “full solidarity and support for the players and their families” while emphasising that such conduct has no place in football or society.

Fiorentina confirmed they have taken immediate action to safeguard those affected, stating their commitment to protecting players and families remains steadfast. The club thanked supporters who have shown affection and support regarding the regrettable events, while reiterating there will never be room for intimidation, hatred or violence within the organisation.

The severity of the threats became apparent when the wife of Fiorentina defender Dodo shared death threats aimed at her and her family on social media platforms. The Brazilian full-back’s family were specifically targeted following the defeat that extended Fiorentina’s winless run to nine games across all competitions this season.

Fiorentina’s current predicament represents a dramatic decline from last season when the club finished sixth in Serie A. The Tuscan side now find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table after 14 matches, having failed to secure a single victory in what has become their worst start to a Serie A campaign in recent memory.
