The refusal arrived soon after negotiations for Alexis Cuello definitively collapsed, adding to what the report described as mounting bad news at Boca’s offices in Ezeiza.
Serna, a Colombian attacker under contract with Fluminense until December 2027, has been deemed non-transferable by the club’s leadership. The Carioca management considered Boca’s proposal insufficient and said it is prioritising keeping its structure intact for the 2026 season. The decision left Boca without a second priority choice to strengthen the wing in less than 24 hours, the report said.
With Serna and Cuello off the table, Boca’s attacking outlook now hinges on parallel talks that must be sped up. Ángel Romero is the only name portrayed as close, with the report saying he would arrive as a free agent. Boca’s Football Council, now structured with Marcelo Delgado as manager, is also weighing other emergency options.
Among the alternatives gaining momentum are Rodrigo Auzmendi of Banfield and a renewed approach for Chimy Ávila, according to the report. Boca is under pressure to secure at least one significant forward before its debut in the Torneo Apertura, with the report noting that Claudio Úbeda’s squad is dealing with significant injuries in the forward line.
