Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has given his approval for a potential move to sign free agent Raheem Sterling, with Spurs emerging as serious contenders for the England international’s signature. The north London club view Sterling as valuable short-term reinforcement for their limited attacking options. According to Football365.com.

Frank backs Sterling arrival as Tottenham explore attacking reinforcements

Sterling became available as a free agent after being released by Chelsea, with Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealing that seven Champions League level clubs are currently in talks with his representatives. The England international is described as fit and keen to start playing at the highest possible level, lacking only match fitness after his disappointing loan spell at Arsenal.

Journalist Fraser Fletcher reports for TEAMtalk that Tottenham are serious about the shock signing because Frank has said yes to the transfer. Sources indicate that Spurs view the experienced winger as potential short-term reinforcement, with insiders noting that an approach from north London should not be totally ruled out given their need for wide-area experience.

Tottenham have already secured two signings this window with Conor Gallagher and Souza arriving at the club. However, they appear likely to miss out on other targets, with Andy Robertson expected to remain at Liverpool until summer and Nottingham Forest leading the race for Jean-Philippe Mateta at around £40m.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara has publicly backed the potential Sterling signing, stating he would absolutely take the winger at Tottenham. O’Hara believes Sterling is better than the current attacking options available to Frank, though journalist Alasdair Gold claims Spurs are not expected to make a move for the player.

Sterling’s representatives are actively seeking a fresh start after the disappointing Arsenal loan spell, with the feeling that the terms of that agreement made it difficult for him to have an impact. The 30-year-old wants to put recent struggles behind him and secure regular playing time at a competitive level.
