Alejandro Garnacho has completed his medical examination in London and is set to sign a seven-year contract with Chelsea after the clubs agreed on a £40 million transfer deal from Manchester United.

Garnacho Set for Seven-Year Chelsea Contract After Completing £40m Medical

Alejandro Garnacho has successfully passed his medical examination in London, bringing the Argentine winger significantly closer to completing his high-profile move from Manchester United to Chelsea. ESPN reports that both clubs reached agreement on a £40 million deal on August 28, 2025, with the player now poised to sign a seven-year contract that would tie him to Stamford Bridge until 2032.

The 21-year-old demonstrated clear preference for Chelsea throughout the negotiation process, refusing approaches from Bayern Munich and a Saudi Arabian club to prioritize the West London move. Ben Jacobs officially confirmed that Garnacho has passed the Chelsea medical and is set to finalize the lengthy contract, though no formal announcement from either club has materialized as of August 30, 2025.

Manchester United will receive the full £40 million fee plus a 10% sell-on clause, viewing the departure as both strategically and financially beneficial after Garnacho was excluded from first-team training during pre-season. The Argentina international contributed 11 goals and 10 assists across 58 appearances last season, making him Chelsea’s fourth attacking signing of the summer as they strengthen their left-wing options.

United supporters have expressed mixed reactions about losing homegrown talent to a direct rival, though the club’s hierarchy believes the transfer addresses squad culture issues and tactical mismatches. Chelsea sources indicate Garnacho will not make an immediate debut, requiring adjustment time after missing proper pre-season preparation, with his first appearance expected after the upcoming international break.

While the medical examination has been completed and personal terms agreed, the official transfer announcement from both Chelsea and Manchester United remains pending. The exact presentation date at Chelsea and full completion of all contractual formalities are yet to be confirmed, though speculation suggests a possible unveiling ahead of Chelsea’s fixture against Fulham on Saturday.
