Rasmus Hojlund credited Antonio Conte’s coaching staff for helping him improve his movement in the penalty area after scoring twice in Napoli’s 2-1 victory over Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, ending a two-month goal drought with a match-winning performance.
Hojlund Reveals How Conte’s Staff Helped Him Find Scoring Form Against Juventus
The Danish striker broke his barren spell in emphatic fashion, netting in both halves to secure victory over Juventus despite Kenan Yildiz’s temporary equaliser. Hojlund had not scored for two months prior to Saturday’s encounter but delivered when his team needed him most, with both goals coming from improved positioning inside the penalty area.
Speaking to DAZN Italia after the match, Hojlund explained how Conte’s coaching team had worked specifically on his movement during training sessions. “Gianluca and the staff talked a lot about my movement in the box. I’ve been going a lot to the back post, but they said there’s space in the front. I attacked the front more and it worked, so I’m happy,” the striker revealed.
The Manchester United loanee praised his teammates and coaching staff for the goals, emphasising his broader contribution to the team’s play. “Sometimes as a striker you don’t score and I try to help the team in different sorts of ways. I know how important it is for the manager to hold up the ball, to put the game a little bit higher, also work hard on the pressing and keep the team compact,” Hojlund explained.
Hojlund’s celebration after his opening goal included gestures toward Conte’s coaching staff on the bench, acknowledging their tactical input that proved decisive. The striker specifically thanked David Neres for the cross that led to his first goal, while captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo praised Hojlund’s overall contribution, stating that “he always helps us out every game” beyond just his goalscoring output.
The victory extended Napoli’s remarkable record against Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, with the hosts now having beaten their rivals in seven consecutive Serie A meetings at the venue. Hojlund, who is on loan from Manchester United with an option to buy, hinted at his desire to remain in Naples, telling reporters he would “give interviews in Italian next season.”
