Inter Milan have initiated direct club-to-club discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential loan move for midfielder Curtis Jones as the January transfer window enters its final stages. The proposed deal structure includes an option to buy rather than an immediate permanent transfer. According to Footballtoday.com.

Inter Milan pursue Curtis Jones loan as Liverpool face squad depth dilemma

The Serie A leaders have identified Jones as a key reinforcement target and are exploring a loan arrangement with a buy option reportedly valued at around €40m. Italian reports suggest the 24-year-old has already given his approval to a potential move to the San Siro, leaving Liverpool to make the final decision.

Inter’s pursuit is understood to be connected to their plans for Davide Frattesi, who continues to attract interest and could depart before the transfer deadline. The Italian club are seeking additional quality and depth in midfield as they push for domestic and European success this season.

Jones’ situation at Anfield has become increasingly complex despite his homegrown status and trophy-laden career with the club. The academy graduate has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Under-21 European Championship with England during his time at Liverpool.

However, his role under Arne Slot has been less consistent this campaign, with Jones starting only 10 of Liverpool’s 23 Premier League matches and four of their seven Champions League fixtures. Competition for places in midfield has limited his minutes, even though he remains a trusted squad option.

Liverpool face a calculated risk in potentially allowing Jones to leave mid-season while competing on multiple fronts with little margin for error in the league. The club have already sanctioned several departures recently, with Luke Chambers joining Charlton Athletic on loan, James Norris completing a permanent move to Shelbourne, and Lewis Koumas going to Hull City on a season-long loan.
