Manchester United striker Joe Hugill has completed a permanent transfer to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, ending his five-and-a-half-year association with Old Trafford. The 22-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at Barnet earlier this month. According to Manutd.com.
Hugill Secures Permanent Scottish Move After United Academy Journey
The Durham-born forward’s United career began promisingly after his 2020 arrival from Sunderland as a 16-year-old. His work rate and goalscoring ability quickly earned him integration into the senior Academy team, with his form rewarded by an invitation to join first-team training in 2021.
Hugill achieved a historic milestone during his debut season, becoming only the second United player in the post-War era to score four times in a single game against Liverpool. The previous player to achieve this feat was Steve Jones in 1977, highlighting the rarity of his accomplishment.
The striker’s development included memorable moments such as scoring for United in a 2-0 win over Rangers during pre-season of 2024/25. He also contributed to United’s FA Youth Cup triumph at Old Trafford two years after joining, appearing as a substitute in the Theatre of Dreams final.
Recent years saw Hugill gain valuable senior experience through multiple loan spells across English football. His temporary moves included stints with Altrincham in the National League before progressing to Football League minutes with Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic, Carlisle United and most recently Barnet.
The permanent move to Kilmarnock represents a fresh opportunity under former Scotland international Neil McCann, who has recently taken charge of the Scottish Premiership side. An injury suffered during a work experience loan with Forest Green Rovers had previously reduced his gametime during the 2021/22 campaign.
