Juventus have reached an agreement with Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza for a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, with the Spain international set to join the Serie A club after three seasons in La Liga with Os Celeste.
Juventus Secure Agreement With Spain Defender Mingueza for Summer Free Transfer
The 25-year-old defender will move to Turin on a free transfer after his Celta Vigo contract expires at the end of the current season. Italian media reports confirm that Juventus have successfully negotiated personal terms with Mingueza, who has been one of La Liga’s standout performers at his position over the past three seasons since joining from Barcelona.
Celta Vigo have been attempting to renew Mingueza’s contract for the past 12 months without success, despite the player previously stating he was comfortable in Galicia. The club will not consider selling the defender during the January transfer window and have requested his full €20 million release clause from any interested parties, making a summer free transfer the most viable option for potential suitors.
Barcelona retained a 50% sell-on fee when Mingueza joined Celta on a free transfer, but both the Catalan club and Celta will receive no compensation when he departs this summer. Aston Villa pursued Mingueza last January, while other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the versatile defender throughout his time at Balaidos.
Since Rafael Benitez’s tenure at Celta, Mingueza has become an instrumental player, operating on either flank in defensive systems using four or five defenders. His technical ability has made him one of Celta’s most creative players, contributing both in build-up play and in the final third with decisive passes and attacking contributions.
This season Mingueza has scored one goal and provided four assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. Since arriving at Balaidos, he has made 122 appearances for Celta, recording 12 assists and seven goals. His consistent performances have earned him four caps for the Spain national team, establishing himself as a regular international player.
