Kante secures Fenerbahce switch after last-minute transfer revival

The 34-year-old midfielder’s Turkish adventure appeared over on Tuesday when Fenerbahce released a statement blaming Al-Ittihad for the transfer’s collapse. The club accused the Saudi Arabian side of failing to file necessary paperwork for the deal, which involves Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri moving to Al-Ittihad.

However, Fenerbahce confirmed on Wednesday that the administrative issues had been resolved, allowing Kante to complete his switch after two and a half years in Saudi Arabia. The former Chelsea star’s arrival represents a significant coup for the Turkish giants following the bureaucratic drama that threatened to derail negotiations.

Kante brings extensive Premier League pedigree to Istanbul, having won the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup during his time at Chelsea. The midfielder joined the Blues from Leicester City in 2016, having guided the Foxes to their historic Premier League triumph the previous season.

The transfer forms part of a broader reshuffle involving 28-year-old En-Nesyri, who joins Al-Ittihad as a replacement for former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. Benzema departed the Saudi club earlier this week to join Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Hilal, creating the vacancy that En-Nesyri will fill.
