Liverpool have reportedly shifted focus in their search for a midfielder, cooling interest in Wolves’ Joao Gomes while stepping up monitoring of club-mate Andre. A report from Brazil said Liverpool are leading the chase and intend to lodge an official bid, with £26 million suggested as a figure that could open talks. Andre is under contract until 2029.
Liverpool Reportedly Leading Chase for Wolves Midfielder Andre
Liverpool have cooled their interest in long-standing Wolves target Joao Gomes, according to reports earlier this week, with Manchester United described as primed to take over the chase. Richard Hughes is still said to be looking at Wolves, however, with Andre now emerging as the Brazil midfielder on Liverpool’s agenda.
Andre, 24, joined Wolves in 2024 in a deal from Fluminense. The report said he helped his boyhood club win the Copa Libertadores in 2023 and has become a feature in the main Brazil squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup. He is also described as a 13-times capped Selecao international.
RTI Esporte in Brazil reported Liverpool are leading the chase for Andre. The report said Liverpool have already shown interest and continue to monitor his performances and statistics, adding that Liverpool intend to submit an official bid “regardless of Wolverhampton’s relegation.” Andre is under contract until 2029, and it was suggested a bid of £26 million could bring Wolves to the table.
The report also said Palmeiras are interested, though it acknowledged the cost of a deal could be prohibitive. Other teams in England, as well as clubs in Italy, France and Turkey, were also mentioned as suitors. It added that a good performance at the World Cup could allow Wolves to drive up the price.
Andre was described as excelling at winning the ball back in midfield and as having been particularly impressive in a recent Premier League clash between Liverpool and Wolves at Anfield. The report said Liverpool are looking for midfield changes due to a lack of numbers and the strain on current options, while noting the club does not want to get drawn into a bidding war and may prefer a January bid.
