Ademola Lookman’s remarkable transformation at Atalanta has earned him a £30.3m move to Atletico Madrid. The Nigeria international will travel to Spain for his medical after the clubs agreed terms for his transfer. According to Bbc.com.
Lookman’s Atalanta Success Secures Major Atletico Madrid Transfer
The 28-year-old forward has scored 55 times for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific attackers. His most memorable performance came in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen in 2024, where his hat-trick secured the club’s first European trophy.
Lookman became only the sixth player to score a treble in a European club final and the first since 1975. His heroics ended Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-match unbeaten run and helped him claim the African Footballer of the Year award that same year.
The London-born striker’s journey to this 35m euro transfer has been marked by resilience after early setbacks. Following his £11m move to Everton in 2017, where he scored on his Premier League debut, Lookman struggled to establish himself at Goodison Park.
His career was revitalised through loan spells, first with RB Leipzig in 2018 before a permanent £22.5m move to Germany in 2019. After disappointing campaigns and further loans with Fulham and Leicester City, his switch to Atalanta transformed his fortunes completely.
