Man United Eye Barcelona Midfielder Marc Casado as Casemiro Exit Looms
Manchester United have identified Marc Casado as a possible summer signing, with Football Insider reporting the Barcelona midfielder is willing to push for a move to Old Trafford. United are preparing for Casemiro to leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season, and midfield reinforcements have become their top priority this year.
The report said United want to reshape the centre of the pitch with younger, more dynamic options amid what it described as ongoing inconsistency in midfield. Casado has joined a growing list of players linked with the club, with United also associated with Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, Carlos Baleba of Brighton and João Gomes of Wolves.
Casado has found chances limited at Barcelona, playing 634 minutes of La Liga action this season. Despite impressing coaches with positional intelligence, ball-winning and composure in possession, he faces heavy competition in midfield, with Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Fermin López occupying key roles. The report said Casado is now believed to be seeking more consistent senior minutes.
United believe his profile fits their needs as a young, energetic defensive midfielder who can anchor the midfield, progress the ball and press aggressively. They see him as a key opportunity, particularly given Barcelona’s reported financial constraints and the player’s desire for a bigger role, with the Catalan club needing to offload players to manage salary limits and squad size.
The player’s interest in joining United was described as “genuine,” according to the report, with Casado viewing the club as a place he could play regularly while continuing to improve at the highest level.
