Manchester United have no plans to move for Rennes forward Kader Meite despite reports linking the club with a £26 million bid ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. Journalist Rich Fay said club sources believe United’s name is being used to generate interest in the 18-year-old from other suitors. Meite has impressed at Rennes and has drawn attention from the Saudi Pro League in this window.
Manchester United dismiss talk of £26m move for Rennes youngster Kader Meite
Manchester United have no plans to sign Rennes prospect Kader Meite, according to journalist Rich Fay. United have been linked with a potential £26 million move for the 18-year-old ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, but the report said sources close to the club insist those claims are being used to drum up interest from elsewhere.
Meite has impressed with his progress since joining Rennes in 2022. The teenager has made 32 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 side and has scored 14 goals, according to figures cited in the report. His performances in France have also attracted attention from the Saudi Pro League, which is described as a likely destination for him during the current transfer window.
United have not added any new players to their squad since spending over £200 million on three forwards and a goalkeeper last summer. The report said the club need reinforcements in midfield, with Casemiro leaving Old Trafford at the end of his contract in June and Manuel Ugarte facing an uncertain future in Manchester.
The report added United have identified Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson as their top midfield targets for this summer. Any move for Meite, it said, is not on the club’s current agenda despite the speculation surrounding the Rennes youngster ahead of the deadline.
