McKennie set for Juventus contract talks as club prepares salary boost
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus will meet with McKennie within days to resume negotiations over a new contract. The USMNT star has entered the last six months of his €3m deal at the Allianz Stadium, prompting urgency from both parties to secure his future.
McKennie’s versatility has made him a key player under Luciano Spalletti, with the American midfielder grabbing five goals and four assists in 19 appearances under the Tuscan tactician. His performances have convinced the club hierarchy that he deserves an improved contract offer.
Previous reports suggested negotiations had stalled due to agent fee demands, fuelling speculation about a potential MLS move on a free transfer. However, these claims were denied by McKennie’s representatives, with his father recently stating on social media that “Wes is the happiest I have seen him in quite some time”.
Both Juventus and McKennie are eager to reach an agreement over a new contract until 2028 or 2029, especially after their mutual development on the field in recent weeks. The club are preparing to raise McKennie’s salary to €4m-€4.5m per season, representing a significant increase on his current terms.
The new meeting between both parties is expected to take place once the January transfer window closes. Gazzetta dello Sport suggests both sides remain optimistic about reaching a successful conclusion to the negotiations in the coming weeks.
