Nani reverses retirement decision with one-season move to FC Aktobe
Nani has come out of retirement to resume his playing career in Kazakhstan after agreeing to join FC Aktobe on a one-season contract. The former Manchester United winger had previously called time on his career in December, but has now opted to return to action with the Kazakh club.
The 39-year-old said he is looking forward to the challenge and to playing a role beyond the pitch. “I’m very happy to have joined FC Aktobe and I am looking forward to contributing to the development of the club and football in Kazakhstan,” Nani said after completing the move.
Nani was at Old Trafford recently to watch Manchester United’s derby victory over Manchester City, and he has maintained close links with the club. He has also taken part in United Legends matches, with the next fixture scheduled for Southampton on 28 March.
A UEFA Champions League winner, Nani won four Premier League titles with United under Sir Alex Ferguson and earned 112 caps for Portugal. United have played once in Kazakhstan, losing 2-1 to Astana in a UEFA Europa League tie in November 2019.
