Newcastle United have emphatically dismissed reports linking Sandro Tonali with a deadline day move to Arsenal, with sources at St James’ Park describing the transfer story as “stupid” and “complete rubbish”. According to Caughtoffside.com.
Newcastle sources slam Arsenal’s Tonali transfer claims as “complete rubbish”
Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards reported that Newcastle sources were left unimpressed by the transfer speculation that emerged earlier today. The Magpies have categorically rejected suggestions that Arsenal made any serious approach for the 25-year-old Italian midfielder, dismissing the claims outright.
The controversy began when Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claimed Arsenal were exploring a surprising deadline day move for Tonali. However, Plettenberg acknowledged the deal looked unlikely due to Newcastle rejecting an initial approach and their reluctance to sell the Italy international.
Notably, no other sources have corroborated claims that Arsenal made any kind of contact over signing Tonali. While the Gunners may have some interest in the midfielder, who has proven himself in the Premier League, Arsenal already possess numerous quality options in that position.
Questions remain over whether Tonali would secure regular starting opportunities under Mikel Arteta given the club’s existing midfield depth. Newcastle lost Alexander Isak to Liverpool in the summer when a significant bid materialised, raising speculation about whether similar scenarios could unfold with other key players.
Tonali remains under contract until 2029 and appears settled at St James’ Park, showing little obvious reason to abandon Eddie Howe’s promising project. However, interest from bigger clubs could potentially change the dynamics, though there is currently little sign of such developments materialising.
