Ahmed becomes the first signing since Philippe Clement was appointed as head coach in November, arriving after scoring for Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2025 MLS Cup final which they eventually lost 3-1 to Sir David Beckham’s Inter Miami. The Canadian winger made more than 100 appearances for the Whitecaps during his time in Major League Soccer.

The 25-year-old expressed his excitement about joining Norwich and experiencing English football for the first time. “I think for most of us Canadians, English football, whether it’s Premier League or Championship, they’re probably the first leagues you’re watching growing up as a young kid. That’s the reason why I’m excited to get over here and get a taste of that,” Ahmed told the Norwich website.

Ahmed has earned 22 caps for Canada since making his international debut in 2023 and is hoping to be selected for this year’s World Cup finals, which Canada are co-hosting with the United States and Mexico. Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper praised the new signing’s attributes and potential for development at the Championship club.

“He will add pace and threat in wide areas for us and he still has a lot of potential for further development and growth in his game,” Knapper said. “Ali showed a real desire to make this move happen and we’re really pleased we’ve been able to get the deal done early in the January window.” Norwich are currently 22nd in the Championship following Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat by Stoke City.
