Rangers secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday, with Bojan Miovski scoring twice to double his season tally and help maintain head coach Danny Rohl’s unbeaten Scottish Premiership record since taking charge of the Glasgow club.
Rangers Maintain Title Push With Clinical 3-0 Victory Over Kilmarnock
The victory leaves Rangers six points behind Hearts and Celtic before the top two meet on Sunday, with Rangers holding a game in hand on the Edinburgh club. Rohl’s side have now gone 10 games undefeated in the Scottish Premiership and are yet to lose a league match under the German coach, who described the title race as “a long way but not impossible” before Saturday’s encounter.
Rangers generated 11 shots at Rugby Park with six on target, creating seven attempts from inside the box while fashioning three goals from limited opportunities. The visitors recorded an expected goals total of 0.74, exactly matching Kilmarnock’s xG figure, but proved far more clinical in front of goal than Stuart Kettlewell’s side who failed to find the net despite creating similar chances.
Rohl praised his team’s finishing after the match, telling BBC Scotland that Rangers were “clinical” and “took our chances unlike Wednesday against Dundee United in a 2-2 draw.” The head coach described the performance as “a good step forward” and highlighted the team’s recent form of five wins in seven matches, while acknowledging areas for improvement in game management.
Miovski’s double marked his first brace since scoring twice for Aberdeen against Livingston on December 20, 2023, with the North Macedonian striker managing three shots from his five touches in the opposition box. Rohl revealed details of recent tactical discussions with Miovski, explaining that the striker has become “more adaptable” and is “not just staying on the last line” which helps in the team’s build-up play.
The striker expressed satisfaction with his performance and consistency, telling Sky Sports that playing three consecutive games has helped him “feel better and better in every game.” Miovski emphasized his work ethic during his goal drought, stating he “didn’t forget how to score goals” and knew the goals would eventually come through continued hard work and persistence.
