Rangers Complete Signing of Sturm Graz Midfielder Tochi Chukwuani on Long-Term Deal

The versatile midfielder previously faced Rangers twice in European competition this season, helping Sturm Graz secure a 2-1 victory over the Ibrox club in Austria before receiving a red card for a challenge on Celtic captain Callum McGregor three weeks later during a 2-1 defeat in Glasgow. Chukwuani made 27 appearances for the Austrian side during their title-winning campaign last season, scoring three goals and experiencing Champions League football for the first time.

Manager Danny Rohl praised the acquisition, stating that Chukwuani “strengthens our group and offers specific qualities that we believe will enhance our midfield department.” The Rangers boss highlighted the player’s “experience of European competition and winning titles, as well as his technical and physical attributes,” describing him as someone who “knows exactly what is required to thrive at a club like Rangers.”

The 6ft 2in midfielder brings tough-tackling tenacity and pace to Rangers, primarily operating as a central defensive midfielder but capable of featuring on the left flank. His arrival provides timely reinforcement following Connor Barron’s injury blow, with Chukwuani having previously played alongside current Rangers players Mohamed Diomande and Oliver Antman during his time at Nordsjaelland.

Chukwuani expressed his excitement about joining the Glasgow club, telling club media he is “super excited” and “can’t wait to hear the roar at Ibrox.” The Danish Under-21 international, who has scored two goals in 20 appearances at youth level since 2023, described Rangers as “a historic club with a huge fanbase” and acknowledged the “huge expectations” that motivate him to “give 100% and do what you can to put smiles on people’s faces.”

The midfielder could make his Rangers debut at home to Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup on Friday, having begun his career at Nordsjaelland where he made his senior debut at 16 and became the club’s youngest league scorer. His career path included a stint at Lyngby where he played 58 matches and scored five goals over two years, before joining Sturm Graz on a four-year deal in summer 2024.
