Rangers Complete Signing of Sturm Graz Midfielder Tochi Chukwuani on Long-Term Deal
The Denmark Under-21 international joins Rangers after helping Sturm Graz win the Austrian title last season, making 27 appearances and scoring three times during his debut campaign. Chukwuani also gained Champions League experience with the Austrian club and faced Rangers twice in this season’s Europa League, scoring in a 2-1 victory over the Ibrox side in Austria before being sent off for a challenge on Celtic captain Callum McGregor three weeks later.
Manager Danny Rohl praised the acquisition of the 6ft 2in midfielder, describing him as a player who strengthens the squad with specific qualities that will enhance the midfield department. Rohl highlighted Chukwuani’s experience of European competition and title-winning credentials, along with his technical and physical attributes that make him suited to Rangers’ requirements.
Chukwuani began his career at Nordsjaelland, making his senior debut at 16 and becoming the club’s youngest league scorer 10 months later after training with the first team from age 14. A proposed move to Serie A side Hellas Verona fell through in 2022 when a medical examination revealed a small heart defect, leading to a two-year stint at Lyngby where he made 58 appearances and scored five goals.
The midfielder expressed his excitement about joining Rangers, stating he cannot wait to hear the roar at Ibrox and describing the club as historic with a huge fanbase. Chukwuani acknowledged the expectations that come with playing for Rangers, saying it provides motivation to give 100% every weekend and put smiles on supporters’ faces.
Chukwuani could make his Rangers debut against Annan Athletic in Friday’s Scottish Cup fixture at Ibrox, with his arrival providing timely reinforcement following Connor Barron’s injury. The Danish midfielder has scored two goals in 20 appearances for Denmark Under-21s since 2023 and previously played alongside current Rangers duo Mohamed Diomande and Oliver Antman at Nordsjaelland.
