Italy international Giacomo Raspadori will join Atalanta on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid for a fee exceeding €22 million, with reports suggesting the deal could reach €25 million. The 25-year-old striker rejected a move to Roma to secure his return to Serie A after just six months in Spain.
Raspadori Snubs Roma Interest to Complete Atalanta Move From Atletico Madrid
Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta are among the Italian sources reporting that the former Napoli striker has decided to join Atalanta instead of Roma. According to Gazzetta, the permanent deal is worth €22 million, while Sky claims the transfer fee reaches approximately €25 million for the Italy international forward.
Roma had reportedly reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy tied to certain conditions. However, Raspadori put talks with the Giallorossi on hold as he preferred a move to Atalanta, effectively snubbing the Roman club’s advances despite their concrete interest in securing his services.
Napoli were also said to be interested in re-signing their former striker, while Lazio president Claudio Lotito denied interest in the Italian forward. The competition for Raspadori’s signature highlighted his appeal to Serie A clubs following his brief spell at Atletico Madrid, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
According to reports, Raspadori’s move to Atalanta is a done deal pending medical tests, meaning the 25-year-old will return to Italy after barely six months at Atletico Madrid. During his time in Spain, he scored two goals and provided three assists in 15 appearances across all competitions, failing to secure a consistent place in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup.
