Liverpool are unlikely to allow left-back Andy Robertson to join Tottenham in the current transfer window, despite considering a £5 million offer from Spurs. The proposed move was linked to Liverpool’s ability to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma, which has not happened. Robertson, out of contract in the summer, has started only four Premier League matches this season.

Liverpool cool on Robertson move to Spurs after £5m offer and cover issues

Liverpool are unlikely to sell Andy Robertson to Tottenham as things stand in the transfer window. Spurs made an offer worth £5 million for the left-back, who is out of contract in the summer, and Liverpool considered it before deciding they are not able to proceed.

The clubs had agreed in principle last week that Robertson’s move could take place after Liverpool’s final Champions League league match on Wednesday. However, the deal also hinged on Liverpool being able to recall left-back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, and that has not been possible so far.

Liverpool’s defensive situation has also been affected by an injury to Joe Gomez, who was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s Premier League defeat at Bournemouth. It is understood Robertson was not pushing for a move, although the Scotland captain is keen to play more regularly before this summer’s World Cup.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City for £8 million in 2017 during Jurgen Klopp’s reign and has made 364 appearances for the club. The 31-year-old has won nine trophies at Anfield, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League, but he is no longer first-choice left-back under Arne Slot, with Milos Kerkez preferred.

Robertson came off the bench to replace Kerkez against Bournemouth and has started just four Premier League matches this season. After the game, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said he wants Robertson to stay and called him a “very important” member of the squad, with the transfer window closing on 2 February.
